The Problem
Small Messes are Difficult to Clean.

Many modern vacuum cleaners are bulky, difficult to maneuver, and difficult to store. Corded models only cause further frustration by interrupting the cleaning process with the need to repeatedly plug and unplug them. Additionally, tasks like emptying dustbins or replacing filters can be messy and confusing, complicating quick and thorough cleaning.

VBL Application
Initial Form Exploration.

The design of the Hand-Vac began with quick and loose sketch studies to explore the initial overall form of the product.

This process enabled efficient and rapid ideation while maintaining a strong emphasis on Milwaukee Tool’s visual brand language, ensuring that early concepts were both innovative and aligned with the company’s design identity.

Concept Development
Three Dimensional Form Development.

Prototyping with foam enables rapid ideation and the creation of multiple design concepts, emphasizing overall shape and form.

This process helps identify issues early, understand ergonomics, & ultimately streamline the design process from concept to final product.

By placing these designs in the hands of potential users, we can observe how they interact with and evaluate the various models and decide which direction to pursue.

Design Refinement.

The initial foam models created during the form development phase serve as a foundation for refining and perfecting the design.

These iterations transition into the design and form finalization phase, where the details are optimized to align with functional, aesthetic, and brand requirements.

By collecting sufficient data and continuously refining the design based on user feedback, the final design naturally takes shape.
